Surfing the East Cape in Baja Mexico has been inspirational in so many ways. Seeing 70+ year olds destroying waves is life goals. But probably the most fun has been surfing with Bernardo Urrea, a local surfer and guide based out of San Jose / East Cape. Bernardo channels Andy Nielblas in his enthusiasm and vibes - making surfing fun but so laid back and style focused.
Bernardo also froths for Whistler sessions where he has frequented many times. He dreams of the Archetype in the whistler backcountry. You can see how he translates his surf style into snowboarding - the style and grace turning in waves so easily lends itself to turns in a powder bowl - it’s no wonder Gerry Lopez looks at his home mountain Mt. Bachelor as a giant wave to ride.
