The Archetype is the brainchild of our R&D lab. Designed to be the ultimate powder board. A board that dominates in the steep and deep but can tackle any terrain you put in its way. The unique shape and considered design add up to produce something that will always put a smile on your face.
The first thing you notice about the Archetype is its unique kicked swallow tail. Unlike any other swallowtail this follows the profile of a more traditional tail shape, rising up from the snow. This drastically improves all round performance over any other swallowtail board without sacrificing hard snow performance, making it incredibly versatile. The tail also acts like a hot fork through ice cream, driving down into powder to lift the nose and keep you surfing effortlessly. Another advantage of the unique tail shape is stability when landing thanks to the addition of 2 carbon beams. These extend from the centre of the board out to the end of the tail. Unlike solid tails that fight against soft snow or typical swallowtails that are super loose and wash out, this makes the tail hold strong and slide smoothly into the snow giving you the most solid platform you’ve ever felt. Combine this with our Hover Camber profile and an aggressive taper that ranges from 25-30mm (depending on size) and you get a board whose nose will never sink, no matter how deep it gets.
Despite its wider size, the Archetype is no more difficult to handle than your daily driver. This is achieved by blending Poplar and Paulownia in the core. This is lighter than our standard wood core but with a greater strength to weight ratio and better response.
New for 1819 is our redesigned Smoothride Sidewall. This builds upon our original award winning technology and helps reduce our overall impact on the environment. A more efficient manufacturing process cuts waste without sacrificing the impact and vibration absorbing properties, helping to provide the smoothest ride possible. Fibreglass layups are also enhanced through the use of tri-axial glass that includes a pre-cured layer above the core for more response and torsional rigidity without adding weight. And of course it’s all finished off with the Channel mounting system for infinite stance adjustment.
Endeavor guys are great to deal with.
Got the board quickly. Fit and finish is superb. Cant wait for the next season.
This thing is great. Done a few snow shoe runs, lots of resort riding and tree runs. It's a lot of fun in tight trees as it turns on a dime. It's the first swallow tail I've owned so I don't really have a basis for comparison. Although I can say I'm super happy with it. I've done a few wide open deep steeps with it and it was great. Less hard work on the back leg for sure.
It works well round the resort. Carves well and can handle every day riding.
Would you believe it: it will go switch in resort. Haven't tried it in powder but had no hassle riding her switch down lake Louise, which was surprising.
It doesn't like resort moguls. You can do them, but its hard work. The board isn't for that though. Clutching at straws for a criticism here!
As far as a dedicated powder board that you can really, actually use every day; I love it! Buy one!
By far my favourite board ever. Handles all terrain so well, and it’s a dream to ride in the pow. Would highly recommend to anyone
Such an aggressive and fun board! I've been riding this thing everywhere powder, groomers, bumps the lot 100% would recommend!
I received my Archetype a few days prior to the time of my writing this review. We didn't have any fresh powder here, and I didn't have a trip coming up right away. I took it out to ride some local groomers, anyway, just to get familiar with the board and to get my binding setup dialed in. It exceeded my expectations from the first turn. It locks into a carve and rails in a way that caught me completely by surprise. With most boards classified as powder boards the typical comment regarding the groomer experience is "It's ok on groomers...for a powder board...good enough for getting you to the next powder stash." The Archetype isn't like that. It's not just "good enough" on groomers. It's phenomenal. Not very often does a board completely surprise me by the way it rides in particular terrain compared to what I had expected. The Archetype did that in the best possible way. This "powder quiver" board, in a handful of runs on very hard-packed groomers, earned its place as my new favorite board (in 30 years of riding), and is likely the most versatile board that I own or have ever ridden. I say "likely" because I haven't had it out in powder, its home territory, yet. I ride a lot of boards every season and if I had to choose one to own as an only board, the Archetype would be the one. If you're looking for a freeride board with powder prowess that somehow manages to not detract from its performance everywhere else then this is it.
